Serge Lutens opens a second parisian boutique
More than 25 years after the opening of his first boutique under the arcades of the Palais-Royal, Serge Lutens is now offering himself a second Parisian showcase. After a confidential address, the luxury beauty brand increased its visibility by moving to 324 rue Saint-Honoré, in the first arrondissement of the capital.
“We want to offer more access and visibility to the brand, which is enjoying tremendous success abroad. A new Serge Lutens online store will soon be unveiled and more stores will open over the next five years. Running our own distribution is an integral part of business development. This is only the beginning of a retail expansion, which is essential for a luxury brand like Serge Lutens,” explains Jessie Giraud, Director of Business Development at Serge Lutens.
This acceleration in development is driven by Shiseido, which acquired Serge Lutens in December 2015. The brand aims to double its turnover from €35 million in 2015. In addition to its two Parisian boutiques, Serge Lutens is present in nearly 2,000 points of sale around the world.
Serycine awarded at INPI 2018 trophies
The National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) has selected four innovative companies in terms of “intellectual property strategy”. The awards were presented on Monday, December 10 at the Trianon in Paris.
Of the twelve companies nominated, four were selected as winners: Traxens in the “Patent” category, Sericyne in the “Design” category, Agriconomy in the “Brand” category and the 13S Laboratory in the “Research” category.
Serycine wins in the Design category with its innovative silk textile, particularly used in the creation of luxury objects and packaging. Clara Hardy, the leader and founder, invented the production of three-dimensional silk using silkworms that produce directly on moulds. “Our 100% natural material is a mixture of yarns linked together by a molecule spun by the silkworm, sericin. Each fibre is about one kilometre long, which gives our material a better resistance than with short fibres,” says the founder at INPI.
Kering creates a prize for sustainable innovation in China
Kering is committed to innovation and sustainable development in a rapidly expanding Chinese market. In Beijing, the Group presented a project with Plug and Play to identify start-ups capable of providing new solutions to make the supply chain more sustainable in fashion and luxury.
The programme “aims to identify innovative start-ups and technologies in China that can improve the textile industry’s environmental and social value chain.” Kering is particularly looking for start-ups that meet the challenges of “alternative raw materials, green supply chains, retail and circular economy,” the company says in a statement.
With California-based technology accelerator and investment fund Plug and Play, its partner since 2017, Kering has developed online modules for these Chinese start-ups to compete. The selection of projects will take place from December 2018 to August 2019 under the direction of Marie-Claire Daveu, the Group’s Director of Sustainable Development and International Institutional Affairs.
