Italian fashion house Gucci has officially entered the metaverse by purchasing a digital plot of land in The Sandbox, a virtual game world.

If last January, the Italian label had started its digital quest with the launch of SUPERGUCCI, a project gathering 10 NFTs in collaboration with Superplastic, it is again making its foray into the metaverse with The Sandbox.

The brand announced on Twitter that it has purchased a digital plot of land in the metaverse The Sandbox, a video game offering a virtual world on the Ethereum blockchain. This virtual world allows users to create, sell, use and monetise their own NFTs.

Although Gucci did not reveal the size of the land, several details about the acquisition were revealed. Its location in the metaverse is intended to provide a fashion-focused space inspired by its Gucci Vault concept. Gucci Vault is an online concept store created by the brand’s artistic director, Alessandro Michele, which offers, among other things, a selection of vintage pieces from the Fiorentine house’s 100 years of creations.

Alessandro Michele therefore envisaged this inclusion in the metaverse and the opening of a virtual boutique in order to offer his customers new interactive and immersive thematic experiences.

In order to go further into the metaverse, we are pleased to announce that Gucci Vault is building its own virtual world on Sandbox,” says the Italian brand on its Discord server.

The shop will sell Gucci products, accessories and fashion items, including NFTs and items located on the brand’s Discord server, for players to wear in The Sandbox.

For a new generation of gamers, virtual fashion is as important as real fashion,” said Sébastien Borget, co-founder of The Sandbox.
