Maison de couture Chloé has just announced the departure of Gabriela Hearst, Creative Director since 2020. It’s surprising, almost disappointing news, given that the Uruguayan designer had set out a number of future directions for the brand.
This announcement comes just a few months after Gabriela Hearst’s last Fall-Winter 2023 show.
While the reasons for her departure have yet to be explained, Riccardo Bellini, President and CEO of Chloé, underlined the designer’s exemplary work: “Gabriela brought exceptional energy and a dynamic creative vision, contributing to a period of decisive progress for the company and writing a remarkable new chapter in the history of our House. I would like to warmly thank her for having invested so much in this mission – not least for her passion, drive and values, but also for her unwavering commitment and support in sustaining the significant progress of the Maison to shape a more responsible future, true to the legacy of our founder.”
While the South American designer only stayed with the French label for three years, she will leave her mark nonetheless, due to the innovations and ideas she implemented.

She has thus played an important role in Chloé’s development and transformation, starting with a commitment to both social and environmental issues. In 2021, one year after her arrival, Chloé became the first luxury brand to obtain Corp B certification. This internationally recognized label ensures that a company complies with standards of transparency and responsibility, on a social, environmental and societal level.
Since her debut at Chloé, she has imposed her vision of eco-responsible, sustainable fashion. For her first show, she created a collection focused on sustainability, paying homage to the House’s founder, Gaby Aghion. She did away with the use of synthetic fibers such as polyester and viscose, turning instead to recycled and/or organically grown materials.
In addition to all her responsible commitments, she was able to perpetuate Gaby Aghion’s legacy, emphasizing the important place of women in the fashion industry: “I feel valued and stimulated by the work I have done at Chloé, especially as I convey the precise message that a woman can do anything,” she declared in a press release from the House.
The designer, who has in fact had her own label since 2015, will officially bid farewell to the Parisian label with a final collection on September 28 during Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2024. The question on everyone’s mind: who will succeed Gabriela Hearst?
