France, the world’s leading luxury shopping destination

On December 11, Global Blue, the world leader in tourist tax refunds, unveiled the results of an exclusive study on international VIP customers and their consumption habits.

Global Blue has just unveiled the results of its first exclusive study dedicated to international VIP customers. According to the classification of the world leader in tourist tax refunds, the elites are made up of tourists spending on average 55,000 € in 12 transactions when they travel abroad.

During a conference bringing together the actors of the luxury industry, Jacques Stern, CEO of Global Blue, profiled the wealthiest international tourists and detailed their consumption habits before opening the discussion on the opportunities that represents this clientele with high purchasing power for the luxury market in France.

This intervention was preceded by a presentation by the Boston Consulting Group, an international strategy consultancy, which set out to compare the purchasing behavior of consumers of luxury goods, according to their nationality.

France is the preferred destination for international VIP travelers qualified as Elite in the Global Blue segmentation: France attracts 36% of them, ahead of Italy and the United Kingdom, which both welcome 31% each year. .

China is the first nationality of Elite tourists present in France. However, with only 30% of VIP travelers in France, this nationality is underrepresented compared to its global weight (around 40%). Conversely, Americans account for 13% of the Elite in France while they represent only 6% of the Elite in the world slovenska-lekaren.com.

Elite traveler spending represents almost 30% of the total amount of zero-rated spending in France. They spend almost € 30,000 there in one year, about half their total budget.

In Europe, France competes with the United Kingdom. Elite customers spend € 35,000 a year on average across the Channel, or 60% of their budget, compared to only 46% in France.
