The mission of The Fragrance Company Foundation France is to promote the finest talents and creativity in the perfume industry. Each season, it rewards the best fragrance launches of the previous year. The 31st edition was held at the Pavillon Gabriel Paris, a stone’s throw from Place de la Concorde, on June 8.
The Fragrance Company Foundation France (FCFF) returned this year stronger than ever, with a physical edition that hadn’t been held since 2019.
“The Fragrance Foundation Awards are a unique opportunity to celebrate perfume and those who bring it to life every day,” FCFF stressed on its website.
This year, 17 fragrances launched in 2022 were honored in four different categories: the Responsible Fragrance Innovation Award, the Professional Awards, the Niche Fragrance Awards and the Consumer Choice Award.
A total of 191 fragrances were entered in all categories. The jury was made up of customers and professionals, all with the same mission: to choose the fragrances that best appeal to them from among the anthology of fragrances. In the Consumer Choice category, almost 39,000 people voted, 52% more than the previous year.

Niche Fragrance Award
The jurors for the Niche Fragrance Award included perfume experts as well as fragrance journalists. Three sub-categories were represented: major brands, affiliated brands and independents. 73 fragrances were in competition, including over 50 for the Independents. It took until the second round to bring out the three winners:
- Bois Charmant, Céline (collection of a major brand)
- L’artisan Parfumeur Abysse, Daphné Bugey (affiliated brand)
- Malamata, Roos & Roos (independent brand)
Responsible Fragrance Innovation Awards
The Responsible Fragrance Innovation Awards recognized a brand’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility. The sub-categories represented were: Espoir de la Parfumerie and Established Brand. 8 experts elected the overall winners:
- Nissaba Grande-île, Frank Voelkl (promising brand)
- Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Vetiver, Guerlain Paris (established brand)
Professional trophies
The 325 jurors in this category come from Fragrance Foundation France member companies (maximum 10 people per company). This is the most “professional” of the four categories, since each juror evaluates the fragrances and bottles “through his or her own expertise“.
The award-winning fragrances come from selective distribution and were pre-selected on the basis of the fifty best-selling fragrances of 2022. There was no award for best men’s launch or best packaging for men’s launches, as none of them featured in the top 50.
- Paradoxe Eau de parfum, Prada (best women’s launch)
- Fame, Paco Rabanne (best women’s packaging launch)
- J’adore Eau de Parfum, Dior (best version of an existing perfume for women)
- Terre d’Hermès Eau Givrée, Hermès (best version of an existing fragrance for men)
- Eau de basilic Pourpre, Hermès (best unisex fragrance launch)
- Aqua Allegoria Forte Mandarine Basil, Guerlain (best unisex fragrance version)
Consumer Choice Awards
This year, nearly 39,000 consumers voted. Each year, tens of thousands of Internet users choose their favorite fragrances from the various distribution channels. All fragrances are distributed through selective distribution (perfumers and department stores), except for one prize, that of best perfume / other distribution channels. This went to the Adopt brand, for its Sublimissime eau de parfum.
- Fame, Paco Rabanne (best women’s launch)
- La petite robe noire Rose, Guerlain (best version of an existing perfume for women)
- 1 million Elixir, Paco Rabanne (best version of an existing fragrance for men)
- Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Vetiver, Guerlain (best unisex fragrance launch)
- Aqua Allegoria Forte Rosa (best unisex fragrance version)
The big winner of this 31st French edition is LVMH with 7 awards, including five trophies for Guerlain, followed by the Puig Group with three trophies for Paco Rabanne. Hermès came third in the top 3 with 2 trophies.
The American edition of The Fragrance Company Foudation will be held on June 15 in New York.
