The international leather ecosystem will once again be able to share its best CSR practices, on September 11 in Paris, at the fifth edition of the SLF.

Since its creation in 2019, it has become the essential international meeting place for the leather industry wishing to move forward on the theme of social and environmental responsibility (SCR).

The fifth edition of the SLF (Sustainable Leather Forum), under the leadership of the CNC (Conseil National du Cuir), with numerous partners including Luxus +, will take place on September 11, 2023 in Paris at the Palais Brongniart.

Key players in the leather industry, service providers, institutions and opinion leaders are once again expected to turn out in droves. Last year there were some 400 participants from all over the world, including some twenty international experts

Registration open

Registration is now open for all those wishing to take advantage of this opportunity to gain insights and exchange ideas that will boost their CSR approach. Tables, keynotes, an exhibition and meeting place, thanks to a new networking tool... The SLF is giving itself the means to optimize these new meetings.

As last year, exhibitors will be on hand to present their services and solutions. There will be around twenty of them for this fifth edition. In 2022, there were some fifteen, including collective structures (CNC, CTC, Fédération de la mode circulaire, ADC, Fashion Green Hub…), private companies (organizer of the Première Vision trade shows, Gruppo Mastroto…), and the Leather Working Group certification body…

But the new feature for 2023 will be a very useful Networking-Matchmaking tool, enabling visitors to meet the participants most likely to meet their expectations. It will be possible to register online for this first international platform for the leather CSR community, open all year round. A few weeks before the SLF, the matchmaking algorithm will propose appointments with suitable contacts and companies. But it will also be possible to make last-minute proposals during the Summit itself.

Round tables

Last but not least, the Summit will once again provide an opportunity to hear from industry experts throughout the day.

Here’s a first glimpse, via the pre-program, which remains to be completed.

After the opening address at 9:30 a.m., the first Round Table will be held at 11:00 a.m. on the question “How can certification standards help to improve traceability and processes in the leather industry?”. We can count on Gustavo Gonzales Quijano, General Secretary of Cotance, Grégoire Biasani, Communications Manager of the International Crocodilians Farmers Association (ICFA), Nicholas Butler, Managing Director of C.O.V.I.C.O (Comptoir des Viandes du Centre Ouest), Sabrina Frontini, Director of ICEC (Istituto di Certificazione per l’Aera Pelle) and Katie Kustkill, Technical Director of the Sustainable Leather Foundation will be on hand to answer these questions.

Climate change: what are the solutions?

From 11:30 to 12:00, Paul Luu, Executive Secretary of “4p.1000”, will give a keynote speech on “Agriculture, soils and climate change: what prospects and what solutions?” 4p1000 (or 4 for 1000) is an initiative launched at COP21 in 2015 to promote the important role of soil in storing carbon in order to reduce the concentration of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere.

From 12:00 to 13:00, the second Round Table will look at “What are the implications, for raw materials, of the emergence of new approaches in agriculture and livestock farming?“. Speakers will include Josselin Andurand, Carbon and Biodiversity Project Manager at Idele (Institut de l’élevage), Megan Meikejohn, Senior Vice President in charge of Supply Chain Innovation at Land to Market, and Aurélie Truffat, Head of Marketing and Communication at Demeter (private certification for biodynamic agricultural products).

E.P.I., a pioneer in CSR?

From 15:00 to 16:00, the third Round Table will take place on the theme “How are the Personal Protective Equipment sectors, and in particular safety footwear and protective gloves, pioneers of CSR?“. Nicolas Mille, CEO of Gaston Mille (safety footwear), Stéphane Rostaing, President of Rostaing SAS (protective gloves), Pierre Mischel, Group Operations Director of Lemaître Sécurité (safety footwear) and Caroline Krug, CEO of Tanneries Pechdo, will be debating.

From 16:45 to 17:45, the fourth Round Table will focus on “a key element in the implementation of circular fashion: the care and repair of footwear, gloves and leather goods“. Following the “Durable et réparable…” presentation by Matthieu Vicard, sustainable development project manager – footwear at CTC, speakers will include Clémentine Colin Richard, Director of Paraboot and President of the Fédération Française de la Chaussure, Sylvain Charretier, Director of Quality Assurance and After-Sales Service at Longchamp, and Clément Fabries, Founder of Risole shoe repair shop and Head of Department 31 at the Fédération Française de la Cordonnerie Multiservice (FFCM).

The day will end with a closing speech at 18:15, followed by a cocktail reception.
