This is a first in the fashion industry. For its latest spring-summer 2023 collection, the House of Chloe unveils Vertical, combining digital, traceability, QR code and second hand. We tell you all about this new collection.

Chloé has decided to set the bar high with its new innovative project, positioning sustainable fashion and circularity at the center of its commitments.

This new concept, created in collaboration with EON, a provider of innovative customer solutions, and Vestiaire Collective, the high-end second-hand sales platform, challenges the codes of fashion. Called the digital ID, it consists in placing a QR code on different products (bags, shoes and clothes) from the Vertical collection, which gives buyers access to a number of services and information.

To start, simply scan the QR code with your smartphone to trace the journey of the different pieces of the collection from the factory to the store. This label also provides access to a certificate of ownership, which facilitates direct resale on the second-hand platform Vestiaire Collective. This is a great asset for fashionistas and customers interested in vintage items, whose authenticity is often difficult to prove. The QR code also gives access to detailed information on the care and repair of the products.

To take it a step further, this association between the luxury goods resale platform and the House of Chloe allows you to directly receive the resale price, even before you have found a potential buyer. There are also other possibilities. The seller will be able to convert their sale into a Vestiaire Co voucher or make a donation to UNICEF to support gender equality.

For now, three categories are included in the Chloé Vertical project: shoes, bags and clothing. This ambitious and responsible innovation allows the label to trace the journey of the pieces, the supply chain and the production process. Moreover, it used noble and natural materials such as linen, silk, wool and leather to make this collection.

With this initiative, Chloe wants to change the economic model put forward in the fashion industry, with three main objectives: guaranteeing authenticity, traceability and facilitating the maintenance and repair of products (care & repair).

A highly motivated team

The goal of this digital passport is to empower customers to make informed, sustainable purchasing choices, as they increasingly demand transparency and traceability. Chloé is a member of the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) Fashion Task Force and Fashion Task Force, whose members are true pioneers of the digital passport in the fashion industry, and Chloé is taking another big step forward with its implementation,” said Federico Marchetti, chair of the Sustainable Markets Initiative Fashion Task Force and Fashion Task Force.

Within a few years, Chloé plans to deploy this digital identification system on all its products, not just the Vertical collection. This is a way for Chloé to reinforce its commitment to its customers, who want more transparency.

In an interview with WWD, Gabriela Hearst, Chloe’s artistic director, highlighted the evolution of the brand’s commitments, since her arrival in December 2020. At that time, there was only one employee dedicated to sustainable fashion: “now we have a team of 10 highly motivated employees, which is comparable to brands much larger than ours” she says.

Gabriela Hearst, more than a fashion designer

Having become artistic director of Chloé 3 years ago, Gabriela Hearst also has her eponymous brand, created in 2015, designed to produce less and better. With the luxury House, she applies the same motto, but on a larger scale and with a greater impact.

Among her founding principles, which she plans to apply to Chloé in the long term, are the launch of fair trade collections, the use of organic, recycled or dormant stock raw materials, and traceability.

In 2021, one year after Gabriela Hearst’s arrival, Chloé announced that it had reduced its carbon footprint by 19% compared to 2019 and received B Corp certification, which distinguishes companies that meet societal and environmental requirements.

A major step forward for one of the most polluting industries in the world.
