The German specialist weekly Automobilwoche has revealed that Volkswagen will place the British luxury brand Bentley as a subsidiary of its Audi division.

The British Bentley brand, which is currently owned by Porsche boss Oliver Blume, will come under the supervision of Audi next year in order to achieve economies of scale in its premium segment.

According to the Automobilwoche media outlet, which quotes sources within the group, Volkswagen‘s CEO since April 2018, Herbert Diess, believes that the brand will have more potential after this restructuring. The British car manufacturer Bentley Motors has been part of the German Volkswagen Group since 1998.

Still according to the German automotive weekly, this association could enable a new Bentley SUV model to use Audi car technology.

However, Volkswagen did not wish to comment on this information, and continues to look to the future of its luxury brands such as Lamborghini, Bugatti and Ducati in its move towards mass production of electric vehicles.

According to sources joined this month by Reuters, the German group Volkswagen could, among other things, float the Italian luxury car manufacturer Lamborghini on the stock market.
