Organized by the National Leather Council (CNC), the next edition of the SLF will take place in a few days in the heart of the capital, at the Palais Brongniart. This year, a particularity comes to carry this forum. Exhibitors will be present, in addition to the round tables and speakers that normally animate the event.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Recovery, the Sustainable Leather Forum (SLF) is innovating for its fourth edition, on September 12. In addition to the 27 speakers and experts in the leather industry in round tables and keynotes, fifteen exhibitors will be present. Among them, the French Federation of Tannery and Hides, the Federation of Circular Fashion, Gruppo Mastrotto, a global leather supplier for fashion brands, and the Leather Working Group, an international organisation that aims to promote responsible practices in the leather supply chain.
The new edition will kick off with a keynote speech by political and economic figures from the leather sector. Frank Boehly, President of the CNC, and associations such as Paris Good Fashion and La Dame à la Licorne, chaired by Sylvie Bénard, will be present.
This will be followed by a round table discussion led by industrialists from the leather chemistry sector. A first, which will give the opportunity to present different approaches, ideas and innovations. Among the questions addressed: “How do industrialists specialising in leather chemistry approach CSR in their companies?”
The director and traceability project manager of the Leather Working Group, Christina Trautmann and Vanessa Brain, will then lead a keynote on driving large-scale change in the leather industry.
A second panel discussion will focus on the automotive leather market.
A sector that is constantly evolving in terms of production and environmental and social responsibility. Discussions will focus on issues such as the carbon footprint and the use of chemicals. Speakers will include Andreas Kindermann, a consultant in the automotive and leather industry.
Isabelle Desfontaines, Eram’s director of sustainable development, will then present the Fashion for Good project in a keynote.
Important issues
A third round table will deal with the issue of sustainable development of materials other than leather, such as cotton or linen. This is a vast subject on which experts and entrepreneurs such as Nathalie Lebas-Vautier, an entrepreneur committed to sustainable fashion, will speak. They will seek to demonstrate how CSR-based approaches can help in decision-making.
A keynote will then allow the team of the French brand Veja, whose founder François-Ghislain Morillion, to present the leather project, originating from the Brazilian pampas, of the famous eco-responsible trainer.
A final table will be dedicated to traceability. A useful point to favour the circular economy and a quasi-total transparency with professional customers and consumers will be made by qualified speakers such as Deborah Taylor, the executive director of the Sustainable Leather Foundation.
Sustainable fashion
The SLF is an opportunity to present to professionals and stakeholders in the fashion, leather, footwear and leather goods industries, as well as in the French and international luxury goods sectors, the various behaviours, tools and solutions to be adopted for a more sustainable fashion.
This will help to develop a collective and multidisciplinary awareness that aims to reduce the carbon footprint, promotes better management of natural resources and protection of biodiversity.
