Shanghai: Bottega Veneta creates “The Invisible Store”, an unseen boutique

The Italian luxury house presents its new concept store, a 100m2 store that disappears into its environment, in the heart of the luxury shopping mall Plaza 66 in Shanghai from July 1st to 19th.

An ephemeral store, completely invisible thanks to its mirror coating. Glass walls that reflect its environment, the glittering windows of Plaza 66 in Shanghai.

Inside the store, the reflective surfaces provide an original customer experience and highlight the pre-selection of the Autumn 2020 collection proposed by Daniel Lee, the brand’s artistic director since 2018.

Bottega Veneta has stood out since 2003, when, under the leadership of Tomas Maier, the brand’s logo disappeared. Daniel Lee is thus following in the footsteps of his predecessor by taking the no-logo concept a step further with the opening of this boutique.

Although the brand is devoid of any sign of recognition, it does not go unnoticed. In a few seasons, Daniel Lee has indeed managed to redefine the image of the label, while respecting its very sophisticated identity by injecting a little subversive touch, which has shaken up without looking like it the ultra-refined tasteful chic style instilled during fifteen years by his predecessor.

Against the tide, it is arousing the interest of many consumers. And with good reason, according to Kering’s financial director Jean-Marc Duplaix, in the last quarter of 2019, the Italian house had mainly benefited from the English designer’s reinterpretation of its spirit and its new products, which accounted for 60% of the total offer.

In the last quarter of the same year, Bottega Veneta’s sales increased by 9.4%, driven by strong momentum in both the directly-operated and wholesale networks. Will the Venetian brand manage to overcome the current economic crisis? To be continued…
