For the first time in its history, the future Ballon d’Or winner will also be awarded a Purnell watch created exclusively for the occasion, celebrating the partnership between the trophy and the watch brand.
Created in 1956 by France Football magazine, the Ballon d’Or is awarded every year to the best player of the year by a panel of international journalists. For 2021, the event has partnered with Purnell, a Swiss Haute Horlogerie brand that produces only tourbillons.
During the Ballon d’Or gala evening in Paris on November 29, France Football will present the 2021 winner with two unique Purnell models specially designed and developed for the event.
These watches are feats of precision thanks to an exclusive “Spherion” mechanism system. In a workshop in Geneva, Eric Coudray, the brand’s master watchmaker, is an expert in the knowledge of gravitational forces and has crafted the two exclusive timepieces for the event.
“The Ballon d’Or is to soccer what the Oscars or the Palme d’Or are to cinema: the ultimate award,” says Maurizio Mazzocchi, CEO of Purnell. In addition, the 2006 Ballon d’Or winner, Fabio Cannavaro, is the brand’s ambassador.
The price of these exclusive watches remains confidential but is nevertheless estimated at several hundred thousand euros.
