From June 16th to 26th of 2021, Patek Philippe, the luxury watchmaking company, will exhibit a vast collection of fine craftsmanship never shown before to the public in its historic building on the rue du Rhône in Geneva.
More than 75 of the company’s timepieces, reflecting its watchmaking expertise, will be on display. However, this exhibition of the 2021 collection will also be an opportunity to present its 2020 collection. Composed of more than 70 timepieces, it could not be unveiled to the public due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Each year, Patek Philippe presents a collection of unique pieces and limited editions, highlighting the ancestral techniques of the watchmaking craftsmen. For example, the exhibition of pocket watches, wristwatches and Dôme clocks remain the company’s masterpieces, reflecting the many techniques inherited from watchmaking traditions, such as hand engraving, cloisonné enamel and miniature enamel painting. Visitors will also be able to attend demonstrations by craftsmen such as enamellers or markers, revealing all the secrets of their know-how.
As a foretaste, Patek Philippe has unveiled two unique pieces from the company, which will be on display in its Geneva Salons.
The first piece, called “Jazz” , is a Dôme clock in cloisonné Grand Feu enamel, a goldsmith’s technique. The decoration of this clock is inspired by the rhythm of the musical style of jazz, and reflects all the strength of this music. The clock features a man playing a double bass, with musical notes gravitating to various parts of the clock and the words “jazz” in the background. To reflect its brilliance, Patek Philippe used a chromatic range of 48 transparent enamel colours in its composition, creating a remarkable play of gradations.
The second piece revealed in preview is a pocket watch named “Panda” , created thanks to the techniques of wood marquetry, hand engraving and hand guilloche under transparent enamel. This piece, made of yellow gold, is a tribute to the giant panda, an inhabitant of the Chinese forests. Feeding on bamboo shoots, they have been naturally represented on the dial of this watch, hand engraved and covered with transparent green enamel. A panda has also been depicted on the back of this pocket watch. Accompanied by a yellow gold stand inspired by bamboo, this handcrafted watch is set at its base with a green tourmaline stone.
The “High Craftsmanship 2020-2021” exhibition will therefore be the only opportunity to admire all the pieces in the 2020-2021 Patek Philippe collection, before they become private collections, sent around the world.
