The Alpina brand, famous for its red triangle, launches its new Seastrong Driver Gyre Automatic watch: Innovation, technology, benefactor and ecological manifesto are the driving forces behind the five models unveiled for Her and Him.
The House’s mission is to design luxury sports watches that operate with precision and reliability in the most demanding sports environments, such as the Alps.
For the launch of these new products, Alpina has chosen to support Surfrider Foundation Europe, an NGO created in 1990 in France (Biarritz) by a group of surfers who wanted to defend their playing field.
This non-profit international environmental non-governmental organization, recognized for its daily struggle led by nearly 2,000 volunteers in 12 European countries, has as its mission the mobilization of citizens for the protection of the ocean and coastline.
This is why the objectives perfectly expressed by the Seastrong Diver Gyre Automatique limited edition line will allow to control the use of chemical substances to better protect health and the environment.
And this, while promoting a high degree of innovation thanks to the expertise of Gyre Watch, a supplier of recycled materials.
Alpina thus decided to equip its watches with a case made up of 70% plastic debris from fishing nets collected in the Indian Ocean. To guarantee its resistance, it has been reinforced with 30% fibreglass.
In addition, the watch brand offers each men’s model an extra strap in black vegetable leather, made from recycled apple waste.
It is also the first time that this eco-responsible alloy complies with the European REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) regulation.
The watch comes in five variations, sharing three dial finishes evoking marine reflections overflown by luminescent hands.
The three 44mm-long men’s models feature a gradation of blue or turquoise, while the two 36mm-long women’s models are adorned with a gradation of blue or tinted mother-of-pearl.
The seconds hand is finished with the famous Alpina logo triangle, which is also used as an index at 12 o’clock.
The watch is fitted with three two-tone NATO-type bracelets made from recycled plastic bottles.
The Seastrong Diver Gyre Automatique line and its name also draw their inspiration from the meeting between Alpina and watchmaking journalist Bernard Werk in the Netherlands three years ago.
Personally involved in the preservation of the oceans, the latter created the concept as well as the name “GYRE”, in reference to these giant circular ocean currents and consisting of the reuse of “ghost” fishing nets from the Indian Ocean.
This line is also the beginning of a long-term collaboration between Alpina, Gyre Watch, founded in the Netherlands in 2017, and Surfrider Foundation Europe, in the fight to protect the ocean and its users.
Series limited to 1,883 pieces each. Between 1.295 euros and 1.395 euros.
