The hotel and restaurant industry in France is one of the worst affected by the health crisis, but some of them are finally seeing the light thanks to a potential reopening, mentioned during the government meeting with the members of the hotel and restaurant industry.
Tuesday, March 16 was held a government meeting with members of the hotel and restaurant professions. The vice-president of the Union of Hotel Professions and Industries, Hervé Becam, says he sees “a glimmer of hope” following this meeting.
“We see a phasing, but the date remains conditioned by the evolution of the disease and vaccination,” said Hervé Becam. According to him, “the resumption will have to be done while maintaining the aids“.
After meeting with the Minister of Economy Bruno Lemaire, the hotel industry would consider a gradual reopening in three phases of four weeks each. For the moment, no date has been set for this potential resumption of hotel activity, but it should see the light of day for the summer of 2021.
The first phase of this reopening plan will begin with the authorization for hotel restaurant customers to have breakfast in the dining room. In a second phase, the terraces, cafés, and restaurants will be reopened at 50% of their capacity. Finally, the last phase would consist of the total reopening of these establishments, while maintaining the sanitary measures (masks, social distancing…).
Hervé Becam hopes to launch phase 1 in mid-April, to reopen the terraces in May, and to reopen them completely by next June. “Obviously, there will always be the necessary barrier measures, i.e. the wearing of masks and the social distancing of one meter in the restaurants“, explains Hervé Becam.
