Burberry will lead the way at the upcoming London Fashion Week, scheduled for 17-21 February 2023. The Autumn/Winter 2023/24 show will feature the work of its new designer, Daniel Lee.
Back to normality…or almost! Last September, the death of Queen Elizabeth prevented London Fashion Week from coming back in full force, almost like before. The royal mourning had led to the cancellation of many shows and events.
However, the British Fashion Council (BFC) has announced a provisional schedule for London Fashion Week (LFW), which runs from 17 to 21 February 2023.
Of course, this is not a cut-and-paste return to the pre-covid era. The formula is now phygital, with live shows but also digital ones, an innovative legacy of containment.
Burberry in the spotlight
The men’s and women’s show by Burberry, the British fashion house par excellence, will certainly be the star of this autumn-winter 2023/24 vintage. The first collection under the leadership of Daniel Lee will be presented. The former artistic director of Bottega Veneta replaced Riccardo Tisci as Burberry’s creative director this autumn.
Also on the programme, but on dates and times that will not be revealed until January, are the physical or virtual shows of Erdem, Christopher Kane, Molly Goddard, Simone Rocha, Roksanda…
Three Ukrainian designers – Frolov, Kseniaschnaider and Paskal – will also be invited as part of the “Support Ukrainian Fashion” initiative in collaboration with Ukrainian Fashion Week.
30 years of Project Newgen
Finally, the BFC is already promising “a series of exciting events and initiatives to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its Newgen project, which has been celebrated around the world”. Launched in 1993, Newgen is a highly successful designer development programme.
London Fashion Week will kick off its anniversary celebration, which is planned for the whole of 2023. The Old Selfridges Hotel will once again host the Newgen Show Space with an impressive list of designers: Ahluwalia, Ancuta Sarca, Asai, Chet Lo, Conner Ives, Di Petra, Feben, Harri, Helen Kirkum, Labrum London, Leo Carlton, Masha Popova, Masha Popova, Nensi Dojaka, Paolo Carzana, Robyn Lynch, Roker, SS Daley, Saul Nash, Sinéad O’Dwyer and Yuhan Wang. A great “opportunity for the creative community to come together” again after some difficult years…
