The luxury group Kering plans to repatriate the bulk of its global logistics from Switzerland to northern Italy, in a new logistics centre in Trecate, 55 kilometres from Milan. The group has just presented this brand new logistics hub, which is “the largest investment we have made to date in Italy”, said its CEO, Jean-François Palus, without specifying the amount.

The 162,000 square metre platform is operated by XPO Logistics, Kering’s long-standing logistics partner, which employs the site’s workforce in charge of storage operations. Currently, the site has 250 employees, but this number is expected to increase to 900 by the end of 2022.

When completed, Trecate will have one of the largest rooftop solar power installations in Europe, with photovoltaic panels with a total capacity of 12.7 MWp, saving around 7,500 tonnes of CO2 per year.

As a result, it will be the first industrial complex in Italy to produce more energy than it consumes. To this end, excess electricity will be redistributed into the Italian electricity grid to power Kering’s shops and offices in Italy.

Specifically, the warehouses and offices will be LEED certified and are expected to achieve Platinum status, making it the first warehouse in Europe to be LEED Platinum certified.

The objective for the offices is also to obtain WELL certification, as well as the Gold label, in order to guarantee the best possible working environment for all employees.

It should be noted that the site already offers twice the shipping and storage capacity of the structure operated in Switzerland. The latter, spread over more than twenty sites, had already reached saturation point. Moreover, according to Invest Securities, Trecate’s capacity could handle up to 80 million parts per year.

This total repatriation of the logistics network to Italy will also enable the company to respond to the priorities and demands of consumers: impeccable service and an accelerated, seamless experience, regardless of the channel used.

By bringing together Kering’s logistical and operational flows on a single site, the Trecate platform enables the group to control the entire supply chain: product availability is improved, stocks are optimised and distribution is ensured more quickly, both in the boutiques and through e-commerce.

In addition, its proximity to the production sites of its brands, in particular Gucci, will lead to a 25% reduction in the unit cost of logistics, in particular thanks to a 50% reduction in the time taken to deliver the products distributed.

“We are transforming our global logistics network in Europe, America and Asia to become fully omnichannel and significantly reduce delivery times, in order to best serve our Houses and provide the best possible experience to their customers. This brand new centre is further proof of Kering’s commitment to Italy: the Group continues to invest there, not only in its craft and management resources, but also in its skills and expertise in the field of logistics. “said Jean-François Palus.

Kering will thus be able to focus on the essential pillars for customer satisfaction: creativity, excellence in execution, customer relations and communication.
