Muse of Christian Dior since 2012, American actress Jennifer Lawrence has once again being chosen by the Parisian fashion house for its Autumn-Winter 2020 campaign. A minimalist and elegant campaign immortalized by photographer Brigitte Niedermair.
After posing for the Miss Dior handbag line, representing the Dior Addict lipstick line and embodying the face of Dior Joy perfume, Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence is already a familiar face at the Maison Christian Dior.
For its new Autumn-Winter 2020 campaign, the French luxury house has once again chosen to have her in the spotlight.
In outfits specially designed by Italian stylist Maria Grazia Chiuri, the brand’s ambassador is presented in minimalist and elegant designs with a certain retro touch. Clear, monochrome silhouettes reflect the designer’s ambition for a timeless wardrobe composed of essential elements, as well as the architectural approach of Christian Dior’s founder’s clothes.
The images of the campaign were broadcast on Tuesday, April 14, in Elle Decor Italia and then on April 16, in the Italian women’s magazine Amica. In addition to traditional press, Dior planned to deploy the campaign online, although it declined to comment on its overall budget.
A luxury campaign with a luxury star, shot from December 18 to 20 in New York, way before the coronavirus imposed a social distancing and put an end to fashion photo shoots around the world.
Faced with the impact of COVID-19, and at a time when many players in the luxury industry are demanding fewer and more seasonal collections, Dior has recently shown itself to be in phase with this industry downturn and wants to reassess its priorities.
The famous photographer Brigitte Niedermair, who captured the images of the campaign, recently declared: “Brands need to think more about the image they want to present. I’ve always been fascinated by the craftsmanship, the artisanality and the beauty of some products. Perhaps this could be an opportunity to cut the noise and go back to those values. In my view, a general slowdown and a shift from quantity to quality can only be good“.
That’s the perfect timing, for the Dior autumn-winter 2020-2021 ready-to-wear collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri has drawn on her teenage diary and photographs from the past, adding her vision of today.
A happy coincidence indeed, which comes to life in a collection with historical and traditional inspirations, and which is embodied in a sober, chic and regressive Dior 2020 woman.
