The luxury House Saint Laurent announced on Monday that it is withdrawing from the Schedule for the 2020 Fashion Shows and will present the collections at its own pace, “aware of the radical changes” due to the coronavirus epidemic, according to the explanations of its artistic director Anthony Vaccarello.

Saint Laurent will not present its collections as part of the official Schedule for the year 2020,” said the Belgian designer on Instagram in a message against the backdrop of the sparkling Eiffel Tower, a traditional setting for fashion shows run by celebrities.

Faced with the evolution of the coronavirus pandemic, the men’s ready-to-wear week and the haute couture week planned for June-July in Paris were canceled. No decision was made on women’s ready-to-wear week in September.

Saint Laurent will decide on its agenda and its launches will follow an optimistic plan guided by the needs of creativity“, underlines Anthony Vaccarello.

The hectic pace of the four annual Fashion Weeks, overproduction, huge investments in fashion shows that last 10 minutes: fashion houses are thinking about the post epidemic.

Aware of the radical changes” brought about by this major crisis, Saint Laurent “takes the decision to rethink its approach to time” by favoring “the relationship with people and their daily lives“.

The Italian designer Giorgio Armani who presents the ready-to-wear collections in Milan and the haute couture in Paris also called in March to “remove the superfluous“.

The moment we are going through is turbulent, but it offers us the unique opportunity to repair what is wrong, to remove the superfluous, to regain a more human dimension … This is perhaps the most important lesson of this crisis, ”writes Armani in a letter published in Jetset magazine.
