In order to support the financing of the construction of an emergency hospital near Milan, the Italian company announced on Tuesday, March 17, that it will make a donation of 10 million euros to the Lombardy region.
In response to an unprecedented health crisis, the Lombardy region in northern Italy has set itself an incredible goal: to build, as soon as possible, a 20,000 square meter hospital with a capacity of up to 400 patients, on the site of a former fairgrounds on the Lodovico Scarampo artery near Milan. The aim is to cope with the massive influx of people contaminated by the Covid-19 epidemic.
The Italian brand of French origin very quickly gave its support to this major project: “I expressed to the assessor Giulio Gallera my willingness to support this great project as soon as the idea was suggested and there are now reasonable certainties about its feasibility; we are ready to support it.I am sure that the team of the Lombardy Region […] can make this great initiative a reality as soon as possible” said Remo Ruffini, CEO of Moncler, in an official press release on March 17th.
And to justify its support, the brand, which specializes in the creation of top-of-the-range down jackets, invokes, among other things, its unwavering attachment to the Milanese metropolis: “Milan is a city that has given us all extraordinary moments. We cannot and must not abandon it.It is everyone’s duty to give back to the city what it has given us so far“, he added.
A salutary philanthropic act on the part of the Italian businessman, president of the Moncler company since 2003, who was quickly joined by other donors, such as former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who announced a similar donation of 10 million euros to Lombardy to carry out the project.
A temporary emergency hospital specializing in intensive care should soon be set up in the region, Italy’s worst-affected by the coronavirus. The ultimate aim is to provide better care for the sick and thus overcome a crisis unprecedented in its scope.
