From September 15 to 18, the House of Cartier will open the doors of the Cartier Jewelry Institute for the first time, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2022.
The Maison Cartier is keen to highlight the importance of its Institute’s missions on the occasion of the Heritage Days, taking place next September. The tours will highlight the importance that the House of Cartier places on the transmission of jewelry culture and will allow the public to discover behind-the-scenes exceptional know-how thanks to a unique itinerary designed especially for these days.
For the record, in 2002 Cartier opened the doors of the Cartier Jewellery Institute: a unique place whose objective is to perpetuate and develop the jewelry professions through the creation of continuous and tailor-made training courses. In 2016, the Institute took up residence in an 18th century mansion in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, in the heart of the historic Parisian jewelry district.
The open house to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Cartier Jewelry Institute will be held at the Hôtel Pinsot. The House will offer a three-stage tour designed to help visitors understand and transmit the heart of the House’s passion: know-how.
First, there will be two immersive experiences that will allow visitors to discover the secrets of the jewelry industry. Visitors will be able to visit the workshops and the workbench, to discover the daily life of the House’s talents: the jeweler, the lapidary, the setter, the polisher and the threader.
The public will also discover glyptics, the art of sculpting fine and hard stones and fossilized materials. This rare art form has been on Cartier’s expertise list since 2010 thanks to the presence of Philippe Nicolas, one of the last glypticians and Masters of Art. He will explain his profession and how, under his gaze and in his hands, stones are transformed into unique jewellery creations.
Finally, you will be able to witness the life of the Workshop at the workbench and participate in a collective work. Indeed, with their expertise, the apprentices will accompany the visitors during this stage by proposing to the participants an initiation to setting.
