The Marriott hotel group is about to build a 5-star hotel in Douala, Cameroon.
The city of Douala has been experiencing a boom in the hotel sector for nearly five years.
On this occasion, the Minister of Cadastre, Domains and Land Affairs, Henri Eyebe Ayissi recently received the delegation of investors from the American hotel group led by its Canadian promoter, Olivier Chi Nouako.
The Marriott International group was founded in 1927 in Bethesda, USA, by the American businessman John Willard Marriott, a specialist in luxury hotels.
Today, Marriott International has more than 6,000 hotels worldwide in 122 countries and territories, including 14 African countries.
The city of Douala being the economic capital of Cameroon, will soon be equipped with 3 luxury hotels.
In this case, the Radisson Blu, Douala Grand Mall, as well as the famous Marriott Douala Hotel whose baptismal funds were raised on August 10, 2020 in Yaounde.
Present at the meeting were the High Commissioner of Canada to Cameroon, Richard Bale, Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the United States of America in Cameroon, as well as the representative of the Mayor of the City of Douala.
The American hotel group Marriott International, which is the initiator of the project, plans to mark its presence in Cameroon in order to strengthen its network in Africa.
This exchange was concluded with an emphyteutic lease for the acquisition of a building space for the purpose of carrying out the Marriott Douala project.
It is in the chic district of Bali located in the first district of Douala that the luxury establishment will be built.
Note that the Marriott Doula will offer 280 rooms with various standings: presidential suites, standard rooms, junior rooms etc…
In addition, the hotel will be equipped with a conference room with a capacity of 1000 seats, a swimming pool, a casino, a business center as well as leisure areas.
The overall cost of this major project is estimated at 100 million US dollars or 60 billion FCFA.
Its construction is scheduled for the end of 2020 and should be completed in 2023, i.e. within 3 years.
Finally, the Marriott International group plans for the future to build 83 additional hotels in about twenty countries, for a total of 16,393 rooms in 22 countries.
To really make its mark on the African continent, the latter has made a record acquisition of 166 hotels in 2014 from the South African hotel operator Protéa Hospitality for a total of $186 million.
