Despite the pandemic, automotive brands Bentley and Aston Martin are posting record numbers for the year 2021.
At Bentley, there is a 31% increase over the previous record of 2020 on its car sales. In fact, Bentley Motors delivered 14,659 cars in 2021. And buyers were clearly undeterred by the relatively slow start of battery-powered Bentleys: one-fifth of Bentayga sales in 2021 were made by the latest hybrid model in its first full year on the market.
In terms of markets, the U.S. retains its top spot for Bentley, representing a substantial 39 percent increase over 2020. The U.S., China, and the Asia-Pacific region all saw double-digit growth and record years for car sales. European buyers purchased 2,520 Bentleys in 2021, up from 2,193 in 2020, (including 1,328 in the UK), representing 9% of all cars delivered. In addition to being up 14% from 2020, that’s more than the entire Middle East.
Adrian Hallmark, CEO and president of Bentley says “These numbers are validation that we are not only leading the industry in terms of sales and market share, but also in terms of investment in electric technologies and commitment to being the world’s first fully electrified, zero-carbon luxury car company.”
At Aston Martin, sales to dealers in 2021 jumped 82 percent, even though the British luxury automaker forecast a lower-than-expected core adjusted annual profit. That’s due to delays in deliveries of its limited edition Valkyrie sports car.
“The Valkyrie program is now running at full speed for 2022, having focused on uncompromising delivery in the face of supply chain challenges and the enormous complexity of ramping up production which has resulted in an impact on the schedule for 2021,” explained Aston Martin CEO Tobias Moers in a statement.
Overall, the company sold 6,182 cars last year, helped by demand for its first sports utility vehicle, the DBX. Shares were up 1.3 percent in early trading.
