After a two-year delay due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, Aston Martin has announced the start of construction of its new Formula 1 factory and campus. The project is expected to be completed by late 2022 or early 2023.

Lawrence Stroll, owner of the British manufacturer, has never hidden his primary ambition, which is to win the world championships within three to five years. This is why Stroll has decided to expand and develop the site.

Initially, the site was based at the Silverstone complex, but this no longer suited Aston Martin’s ambitions. Lawrence Stroll believes that without the new factory and campus, Aston Martin would struggle to make progress and achieve the goals set by the owner.

“With the current factory, it would have been really difficult. (…) Improved communication and research development in the design area was a necessity. We couldn’t continue to grow to the number of employees I want with the existing site. Impossible,” said Stroll.

As a result, construction has begun on a 37,000-square-metre campus on land near the current site, acquired by the owner of Aston Martin. The complex will include a factory, conference centre, wind tunnel, auditorium, history department and additional office space.

Lawrence Stroll has pulled out all the stops on this new project, as the site will be completely sustainable and will also be equipped with 5G and the latest technology to give Aston Martin the full potential to succeed.

The site aims to be more functional than aesthetic, so that the team of 1,000 employees have everything they need to do their best work. “It’s a business, a factory and a campus that fits our DNA, our culture and our history. The purpose for which they are built is to be efficient and streamlined. And, again, for everyone to be side by side under one roof,” Stroll stressed.

The cost of this huge project is estimated at between 175 million and 235 million euros.

Commenting on the project, L. Stroll said: “If you want to be successful in F1, you have to put your hand in your pocket. Money always plays a crucial role and will continue to do so. We all know the budget ceiling and we are all very realistic about what is not included in it. For us, this campus is long overdue. COVID has cost us two years, otherwise we would have built it by now or be close to it. But to play the game of winning – and that’s why I’m here – this tool is 100% necessary.”
