The most chic street in Paris sees the house of Dior reopen its complex after months of titanic work.
This hybrid place between boutique, museum and restaurant of the luxury house of Dior will reopen its doors this Sunday, March 6, to the delight of aficionados of the brand.
The idea of Pietro Beccari, president and CEO of the brand, was to empty this huge space of nearly 14,000m2 to relocate its offices to the new headquarters located a few blocks away, on the Champs-Elysées. The boutique is returning to its roots: 30-32 avenue Montaigne was originally a private mansion acquired by Christian Dior in 1946 to house his studio, workshops and the brand’s fashion shows.
The historic headquarters now features a 2,000m² gallery that traces the nearly 75 years of Dior history. You can see pieces of the collections and even some period rooms, such as the models’ cabin or the designer’s office. It was the “Christian Dior: Creator of Dreams” exhibition (having attracted more than 800,000 visitors to the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris in 2017) for the house’s 70th anniversary that gave Pietro Beccari the idea to add a gallery, which is one of the largest exhibition spaces dedicated to fashion in France.
A little further on, at the corner of Rue François I, the boutique displays products designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri for women’s fashion, Kim Jones for men’s fashion and Victoire de Castellane for the jewelry lines. The boutique is also home to Monsieur Dior and Pâtisserie Dior, two restaurants run by chef Jean Imbert. “Jean Imbert, the chef of this new address celebrating the art of living dear to Monsieur Dior, was inspired by the house’s archives, in which he has been immersed for the past two years, to imagine exceptional creations reflecting the history of Dior, from its founding to today. A gastronomy that reflects the values of the house, at the crossroads of heritage and future“, explained a Dior representative. A Dior representative explained to WWD magazine. There are also three gardens as well as “The Dior Suite“, designed by Peter Marino, which offers benefits to its customers, such as the ability to keep the store open all night for 24/7 access.
