Coronavirus : Are luxury masks really effective ?

The global pandemic continues to affect countries around the world. First unnecessary for the population and then finally out of stock worldwide, the mask has become an indispensable item and is being declined on all sides by fashion brands that are beginning to unveil their own models of protection.

Health regulations require it: the wearing of masks is now mandatory in all public places in Paris and its suburbs since August 28, 2020.

Whereas before the global pandemic, masks were only sufficient for healthcare personnel, global demand, saturated, very quickly caused a stockout.

No longer available anywhere, the disposable surgical mask is being replaced by other alternatives offered by retailers, fashion brands or even citizens themselves. These “home-made” masks are very easy to design thanks to the multitude of sewing tutorials available on the Internet, published by professionals or private individuals, and can be customized ad infinitum according to the fabrics one owns, washable and reusable más impotenzastop.it.

For their part, luxury brands, which initially provided great assistance in the manufacture of disposable masks that were out of stock throughout the country, are now starting to design luxury masks, combining elegance, style and comfort. The objective? To change consumers’ idea of the pain associated with the mask and make it elegant. But one question emerges: are they really effective and do they comply 100% with the strict codes imposed by the French Standards Association (AFNOR)?

It is important to know that, according to professionals, the virus is not likely to stop for a long time. The mask thus becomes an everyday accessory in spite of itself: “Other epidemics will break out, the mask will thus become a fully-fledged accessory” says Géraldine Bouchot, the trend and perspective director of the Carlin style bureau. “Just like glasses, which are of medical use, it is necessary to adapt the styles, but also that it is washable, for obvious ecological reasons, and that it is above all effective”.

The British brand Burberry is about to launch its own protective masks magyargenerikus.com. With the brand’s emblematic striped pattern, the mask will be available for €100 on its website. The French house Louis Vuitton aims much higher and unveils a protective visor with leather edges, which is prohibited in France under penalty of a fine. However, the leather goods manufacturer unveiled its collection on October 30, 2020 at a price of €800. For its part, the Italian clothing brand Off-White, in partnership with designer Virgil Abloh, also launched a range of several masks in reusable fabrics, available on its website at a price of $105, or about €88.

However, not everyone agrees on the subject: “It would be inappropriate and very vulgar to have a logo on a mask and make a profit from it.” said fashion historian Olivier Saillard to AFP.

The question today is: does the aesthetics of these protections take up more space than the security and medical aspects? On Burberry’s website, we can find the annotation “does not replace personal protective equipment“, which may therefore leave room for doubt.
