Chanel announced yesterday the postponement of a show planned for May in the city of Beijing because of the coronavirus.

Chanel announced on Monday the postponement of a parade scheduled for May in Beijing, because of the coronavirus that appeared in December in China and caused more than 1,700 deaths in the country. It took this decision, “based on the current situation and taking into account the recommendations of the Chinese authorities”.
Now postponed to “a more opportune moment”, the parade was a replica of the one presented in December 2019 in Paris and devoted to the arts and crafts. Named “31 rue Cambon”, the address of Chanel’s historic salons and studios, this collection was inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s apartment, and was presented in a decor imagined by the American director Sofia Coppola.
“Chanel is following the situation closely. The health and well-being of its teams and customers are the priority,” the brand said in a release.
Just a few days before the Autumn-Winter 2020-21 Women’s Fashion Week, Chinese designer Jarel Zhang also cancelled his Parisian fashion show, “in order to guarantee the good health and safety of both countries and to reduce the number of contacts”.
Other Chinese designers such as Shiatzy Chen, Masha Ma, Uma Wang, Calvin Luo and Maison Mai will not be able to present their collections due to the coronavirus epidemic. The Federation of Haute Couture and Fashion will put at their disposal all its communication networks in order to share their work during this period, in France as well as internationally.
