The Chanel Cruise fashion show took place last Friday in Miami, Florida, in front of an array of celebrities.
If the weather is getting cooler in France, this was not the case in Miami where Chanel set up shop for its Cruise 2022-2023 show this past weekend. It featured a replica of its Cruise 2022 collection, first seen last May in Monaco. And the brand’s faithful did not miss this opportunity to travel in the sun. Marion Cotillard took her place in the first ephemeral row installed on the beach of the Faena Hotel. The French actress opted for powder pink and wore a monogrammed XXL polo shirt over cycling shorts.
Lily-Rose Depp, who will soon be starring in the sultry series “The Idol”, also attended the event and opted for a crop-top and a sky-blue miniskirt. Jenaye, the daughter of Yannick Noah and British model Heather Stewart-Whyte, walked the runway for the House. Wearing a two-tone jumpsuit and pumps, with a scarf in her hair, the 25-year-old was able to count on the support of her half-brother Joakim Noah, who was in the front row with his wife Lais Ribeiro, also a model.
Cruise and Masterclass
Taking over the Faena Hotel, the models paraded on the beach while guests watched from red cabins sheltered by two-tone parasols.
Virginie Viard, the brand’s creative director since Karl Lagerfeld‘s death, created a cruise collection of glittery mechanic suits, sportswear and swimwear combinations and plaid tights. The connection between Monaco and Miami is not obvious at first glance but both have their own version of glamour and a Formula 1 race, (very recent for the Florida city), which inspired this collection.
“It reminds me of a time I never lived in, and suddenly I feel nostalgic for high heels, swimming costumes and all that luxury, which was never part of my life,” Virginie Viard explained to WWD when the collection was first presented in Monaco.
Bruno Pavlovsky, president of fashion activities and president of Chanel SAS comments on this choice: “Customer engagement is more and more important (…) It was very important for us to bring the collection to them. They may have seen it in a video, but they were not in Monaco. It is important for them to see and feel the collection.”
The following morning, the House hosted a Masterclass that included 190 art, fashion, design and architecture students from Miami area universities. Bruno Pavlovsky and ambassadors Pharell Williams and Caroline de Maigret were able to answer questions from moderator Tyler Brûlé and the students.
In five weeks, Chanel will land in Dakar to present the next Métiers d’Art collection. Chanel is planning a three-day festival that will celebrate the creativity of the Senegalese capital, incorporating the work of local artisans and artists. This is the start of a future permanent conversation between the Maison of rue Cambon and the Senegalese capital.
