Breitling will purchase a sustainable aviation fuel to be used for all its flights on SWISS airlines, with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality.
SWISS airlines and Breitling have entered into a unique partnership.
The Swiss watchmaker will purchase sustainable aviation fuel for its business travel flights, retroactively for the entire 2022 calendar year.
By investing in this fuel, Breitling will reduce the CO2 emissions from its air travel by 80%. The company will offset the rest through investments in high-quality carbon credits.
Georges Kern, the Swiss company’s CEO, says, “At Breitling, sustainability is not a project, but a path we are on to transform our business.”
He adds, “Achieving carbon neutrality for our business travel with SWISS is important to us because it allows us to reduce our emissions and, through the purchase of SAF, make a modest contribution to the sustainable transition of the aviation industry, with which we have had close ties since the 1930s.”
SAF: Fuel 2.0
SAF is a non-fossil fuel that completes the carbon cycle. The fuel currently used by SWISS airlines is produced from biogenic waste, such as used cooking oil.
It is of key importance in the decarbonization of aviation. However, it is only available in very small quantities at the moment.
The airline is also investing billions in energy-efficient aircraft to reduce carbon emissions by 25 percent.
SWISS CEO Dieter Vranckx says: “Breitling is playing an exemplary pioneering role with its commitment to FAS. Collaborations such as this are accelerating the production of sustainable aviation fuels in a tangible way and leading the transition to CO2-neutral air transport.”
This singular alliance not only reduces the watchmaker’s carbon footprint, but also helps shape the future of air travel.
