The car manufacturer Rolls-Royce and Swiss watchmaker Bovet have teamed up to create a pair of watches (one men’s and one women’s) for the future first owners of the Boat Tail.
The Boat Tail, a yacht-like car unveiled as the world’s most expensive car (selling for €23 million), represents the culmination of a project undertaken by Rolls-Royce over several years. The car is unique in its design and comes with many exclusive features. For example, the rear of the car has panels that rise to the side to form a table sheltered by a sunshade, so that you can have lunch or dinner in the open air from your car.
The watches have been developed around this luxury car and can be used as wristwatches, pocket watches, table clocks or even integrated into the vehicle’s dashboard. Equipped with the Amadeo system, they can be reversed and change use without the need for any tools.
Comprising a 44mm white gold case, the men’s model has a polished finish while the women’s version is adorned with engravings in blue varnish. The front dial features handmade marquetry in the same wood as the Boat Tail. The tourbillon bridge features the “Spirit of Ectasy” , an emblematic Rolls-Royce figure, also made by hand in gold.
On the back, the dial of the men’s model is made of aventurine stones, displaying the owner’s astral theme. The female model, meanwhile, reveals a miniature painting of a bouquet of flowers on a dial made of mother-of-pearl.
However, the two dials have one thing in common : they both feature a handmade miniature replica of the Boat Tail. As an added bonus, on the side of the dial, the name of the person who shares the life of each owner will be engraved on the tourbillon bridge.
The meticulous production of these unique watches required more than 3000 hours of work.
“We enjoyed working with BOVET 1822 to create a pair of exquisite watches, which also serve as dashboard clocks for the Boat Tail. In doing so, together we have created elements of precision and beauty of historical significance. These remarkable works of art, unique to the first edition of the Boat Tail, represent the finest examples of the skills and values shared by our two great luxury houses” , says Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce.
