The German car manufacturer BMW has just taken over the entirety of the independent manufacturer and specialist in high-end preparation Alpina.
Alpina is known at BMW for being a specialist in the preparation of BMW cars since 1965, that is to say 57 years of collaboration between the two companies. It is also famous for transforming and improving the performance of BMWs and has been more than just a tuner since 1983, but a manufacturer in its own right.
It was therefore concluded that Alpina “will continue to use its engineering expertise in the development, manufacture and sale of BMW ALPINA vehicles within the framework of the existing cooperation until the end of 2025“. Indeed, the current agreement will run until 31st December 2025. BMW will therefore retain full control of Alpina beyond this date.
The takeover was also part of a move to secure the company’s long-term future, given its status as an independent manufacturer and the new, increasingly stringent CO2 standards: “We recognised the challenges facing the automotive industry at an early stage and are now setting the right course for ALPINA and our family business,” said Alpina’s co-CEO Andreas Bovensiepen.
Two top executives of both companies expressed their optimism about the extension of the cooperation and the takeover decision.
“BMW and ALPINA complement each other perfectly! The ALPINA brand has matured alongside BMW over the past 50 years and has everything to make the heart of a car connoisseur beat faster all over the world. It strikes the right balance between cultivated sportiness, luxury and exclusivity. We are delighted to acquire the brand rights to ALPINA and to add a new DNA-capturing vehicle to the BMW portfolio,” says BMW Senior Vice President Customer and Brand Jens Thiemer.
Andreas Bovensiepen said, “This marks the beginning of a new chapter. The ALPINA brand and our company are extremely desirable. We have deliberately decided not to sell ALPINA to just any manufacturer, because BMW and ALPINA have worked together and trusted each other for decades. That is why it is the right strategic decision for the ALPINA brand to be managed by the BMW Group in the future.”
