The annual Black Friday, initially scheduled for November 27th before being postponed for several days due to the health crisis, will begin on December 4th. However, it is already possible to take advantage of some offers as many online stores have already taken the lead and are offering the first promotions until next week.
Merchants had asked to reopen on November 27th for Black Friday so as not to disadvantage stores offering only physical sales to the detriment of online stores. Matignon had finally decided to postpone the overall week of Black Friday.
“Today, like other retailers in France, listening to the government’s recommendations, we decided to postpone the date of Black Friday if it allows shops and physical stores to reopen before December 1,” commented Frédéric Duval, general manager of Amazon France, on TF1’s 20 heures.
Black Friday, this commercial event coming straight from the United States, usually takes place on the last Friday of November, the day after the American national holiday Thanksgiving. After rumors circulating about the cancellation of Black Friday, and Bruno Lemaire assuming that it is not reasonable to maintain the promotional operation, the government decided to maintain the event, essential for many businesses, which hope to be able to get back up the door thanks to the sales generated by the event. Indeed, the event had generated 6 billion euros in sales in 2019, including 5 billion in physical shops, according to Bercy.
For this most singular year, the event was postponed by one week in France, mainly because of the national confinement that forces stores to close their doors. However, some luxury brands have already entered the dance, and are already offering their first promotional offers.
