MCH Group has unveiled its new concept for the Baselworld watch show. The event will be split between a digital platform and a complement to the watch shows organized in Geneva.

After a contemplated reorganization in which there was talk of renaming the watch show HourUniverse, Baselworld is finally staying put. The announcement of the end of the show in its traditional form had led to the departure of five brands, and not the least: Patek Philippe, Chanel, Chopard, Rolex and Tudor. All of them joined the Watches and Wonders show.

Indeed, let us recall that tensions persisted between the organization and its partners. The five watchmaking partners had demanded the reimbursement of expenses incurred following the cancellation of the 2020 edition. This request was not met with a favorable response from the MCH Group.

In a statement issued last Wednesday, Michel Loris-Melikoff, director of the show, refers only to the difficulties encountered by the show because of the health crisis and not in relation to the departure of the five exhibitors.

The Covid-19 pandemic has paralyzed Baselworld for the past two years and we took the time to discuss with our partners and exhibitors. One thing became very clear: the Baselword brand must stay, but it must change fundamentally” he explains.

From now on, the show will become a “B2B platform in the mid-range luxury segment in the watch, jewelry and gemstone sectors.”

This new orientation is in line with the strategic vision of the MCH Group. The events giant is seeking to diversify its business activities and secure the operation of its infrastructure throughout Switzerland.
