Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet recently unveiled its new museum in the Vallée de Joux, as well as the stunningly designed Hotel des Horlogers.

Located in the heart of the Vallée de Joux in the canton of Vaud, the famous cradle of fine watchmaking, the Audemars Piguet Manufacture has unveiled its new Museum, the old one dating from 1992, as well as the new Hôtel des Horlogers.

The architectural project was entrusted to a world-renowned Danish firm, BIG, led by architect Bjarke Ingels. The challenge was to perfectly integrate the new buildings into the natural environment of La Vallée, involving the choice of authentic and local materials. The project has a design that perfectly integrates these data with assumed and harmonious forms. The hotel is built in a zig-zag pattern with five ramps, while the Museum is housed under a 2400 m2 glass spiral. The solid elements, walls and columns were eliminated and the spiral mechanism was revealed. This is architecture as a clockwork.” explains the architect.

The hotel’s interiors, designed by French firm AUM Pierre Minassian, attempt to echo elements of the landscape, from truffle-shaped light fixtures to mountains inscribed on the walls in silver op-art discs. The hotel also includes Gogant, the ground-floor restaurant run by three-star Michelin chef Emmanuel Renaut.

The construction of the new Hotel des Horlogers was based on the initial project for the Audemars Piguet Museum. The Danish architectural firm commissioned to build the Museum proposed a second project for the redesign of the Hotel for which work was more than necessary” the brand explains to lifetimedesign magazine. Although it owns the hotel, Audemars Piguet points out that “the new hotel project would not have been possible without the involvement of the other brands present in La Vallée. Indeed, visitors to La Vallée, whether they visit Audemars Piguet, Breguet, Bulgari, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Patek Philippe or Vacheron Constantin, will be able to enjoy this new building and its exceptional setting.
