Attractive African market
Incomes in Africa are growing steadily, especially among the very wealthy. According to the seventh edition of the annual African Wealth Report published by Kenley & Partners in collaboration with New World Wealth, private wealth is set to increase by 38% on the continent over the next decade. Recent months have also been marked by significant project announcements and achievements in Africa.
Last May, American hotel group Radisson Hotel Group announced plans to double its portfolio in Africa, from twenty-five to fifty properties in West and Central Africa by 2025. Whereas in 2008 the group had just one hotel in the region, it now operates twenty-five. In 2020, Radisson was able to strengthen its presence in West and Central Africa by adding three new hotels with a total of 625 rooms. This expansion strengthened its position in the Nigerian and Malian markets, while marking its entry into the Ghanaian market. An important milestone for the Group was the creation of the Radisson Collection brand in Africa, symbolized by the December 2020 opening of the Radisson Collection Hotel in Bamako, Mali. In addition, in April 2021, Radisson launched the Radisson Individuals project in Accra, Ghana. This project represents a conversion brand offering independent hotels and local or regional chains the opportunity to join Radisson Hotel Group’s global platform while preserving their individuality and identity.
Meanwhile, EssilorLuxottica, the world’s leading ophthalmic and optical company, signed an agreement in May with the Chalhoub Group, a privately-owned luxury goods retailer based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This partnership aims to strengthen eyewear sales in the Gulf region by introducing new stores and brands.
