Vacheron Constantin plans to equip all its watches with the new Blockchain technology by the end of 2021, an untraceable and impermeable system against any fraud.
Located in Geneva, the Swiss Haute Horlogerie group has been working since last year to certify all its watch collections via a digital authenticity system.
Vacheron Constantin was already using this technology, but only for a specific timepiece segment, antiques vintage models from the Les Collectionneurs collection.
This digital certificate of authenticity was first produced upstream during numerous tests on this collection in order to ensure its efficiency and reliability. It was a resounding success, which now allows the brand to attribute it to its entire collection.
Among all the Haute Horlogerie brands, Vacheron Constantin is one of the first, along with Breitling and the Kering group, to have dedicated Blockchain technology to its timepieces: “Vacheron Constantin was one of the first watchmaking houses to pilot a digital certificate based on Blockchain technology, as we announced in May 2019: it is a natural evolution for our brand to extend this digital certification to all of its collections today. We are pleased to support the creation of an innovative ecosystem around the Blockchain for the luxury industry.” said Louis Ferla, CEO of Vacheron Constantin.
The Blockchain protocol aims to combat the counterfeiting of timepieces by guaranteeing its owners an innovative solution through personalized and secure customer service. At the same time, this technological system also benefits from the fight against paper, which is more exposed to the risk of falsification.
Blockchain security is therefore configured on a database of collected data, which is then secured by an encryption system, making it impervious to the risk of any malicious fraud.
The subsidiary of the Richemont group therefore offers its customers the possibility of enjoying a watch in complete security and with the best possible guarantees. In the event of a change of ownership, the system continues to secure the data linked to the property, and does not change the value of the watch over time, nor its nature and authenticity.
In order to be ever closer to its customers and to listen to their different needs and requirements, an exclusive website will be created for this purpose: The Hour Club. Within this platform, numerous services will be reserved for customer service, including digital authentication of the watch, registration of the model in the database, but also another facet of the brand from which its customers will be able to benefit: specific content dedicated to their needs and invitations to events in which the House is a partner. All of which will offer a unique, high-quality dimension to each client.
“[…] Digital identity will transform the notion of ownership of an object of value, allowing its owner to follow its life cycle, to share or prove its ownership, to benefit from services specifically related to its timepiece. Beyond the tamper-proof certificate itself, the owner has fingertip access to all the information related to his or her watch, including technical data, user guide, authenticated history, as well as several services, including resale on WatchFinder and online after-sales service requests.” he added.
The Richemont Group is joining forces for this occasion with the Arianee consortium, an independent, non-profit project born in 2017 which aims to extend this technology to the entire Haute Horlogerie sector by establishing an international standard to guarantee the best possible solutions for consumers of their timepieces. The Arianne Services program will implement the Blockchain technology for the benefit of all watchmakers by offering digital solutions for their customers and a unique, tamper-proof authenticity system through its platform.
