With this rather uncertain health and economic context, the future is becoming clearer for some groups, particularly after the revelations of Daimler and Rémy Cointreau. Daimler and Rémy Cointreau both anticipate a strong increase of around 10% in 2021 in their results compared to last year.
The arrival of this global pandemic has brought the economies of many countries around the world to a complete halt. This economic halt resulted in a 78% drop in operating profit in the first quarter of 2020 for the Daimler Group. An operating loss of 1.7 billion euros followed in the second quarter, when the pandemic led to massive production stoppages and cutbacks in Europe. The Stuttgart-based group eventually ended the year with a net profit of 4 billion euros.
For its part, the Rémy Cointreau group has also been heavily affected by the health crisis. Between April and September 2020, the spirits group’s current operating profit (ROC) fell by 23.2%.
After a year 2020 marked by Covid-19, the two groups nevertheless expect a significant increase in their sales. Mercedes-Benz manufacturer Daimler expects to achieve an operating margin of between 10% and 12% for its ‘Car & Vans’ business in 2021.
For its part, Rémy Cointreau is forecasting organic growth in its current operating profit of around 10% for the 2020-2021 fiscal year, which ended on 31 March 2021. Indeed, the demand for Cognac in China is increasing, and this gives hope to the group. Thanks to the Chinese New Year, Rémy Cointreau’s sales over the last three months amounted to 229.4 million euros.
