Jumeirah Group, the international luxury hotel company, will reopen its flagship hotel, The Carlton Tower Jumeirah, located in the heart of London’s Knightsbridge on June, 1st 2021. After an 18-month closure for refurbishment, the hotel has undergone the most extensive transformation in its history, equivalent to a cost of over £100 million.

The entire 17-storey building was renovated and redesigned. The aim? To create an entirely new atmosphere of excellence and refinement. The result: 186 new rooms and suites reduced to 216 to provide larger accommodation, a new health club, spa, London’s largest naturally lit swimming pool, restaurant, lobby bar, ballroom and meeting rooms.

Located in the heart of the British capital, on the famous Sloane Street overlooking London’s major landmarks, the Carlton Tower Jumeirah is a classic, modern and sophisticated destination with a rich history. World-renowned for its first-class service and meticulous attention to detail, it has been reinvented to further satisfy a new generation of guests.

We are delighted to welcome back our valued guests after a significant investment and complete renovation of the hotel, with new rooms, restaurant offerings, spa and lobby entrance. We will once again be the place to be, a cornerstone for the local London community, as well as a leader in the global luxury hotel industry” , says Aaron Kaupp, General Manager of Carlton Tower Jumeirah.

Equally, the two highlights of the renovation are in the health club and restaurant.

The famous Peak Fitness Club & Spa is located on three floors, and houses new treatment rooms in the Talise Spa as well as London’s largest 20m pool with natural light and views through its glass ceiling. With its new design and features, The Peak looks set to reclaim its place in the world of luxury wellness in London.

Finally, the hotel’s restaurant ‘Al Mare‘ offers a sophisticated and welcoming dining experience steeped in Italian cuisine. The restaurant provides a convivial dining experience, giving the experience of a journey through Italy. It includes a theatre kitchen, a private dining room and outdoor dining. Also featuring an innovative cake-o’clock concept, an all-day pastry service and a newly created lobby bar, offering a refined cocktail and spirits experience in a glamorous setting, the renovations to London’s Carlton Tower Jumeirah are sure to delight many when it will reopen on June, 1st.

The challenge with Covid-19

The Carlton Tower Jumeirah, through its extensive renovations, hopes to attract customers from London’s other key markets – the US, China and Europe – as the Jumeirah Group seeks to make the Carlton Tower one of the top five hotels in the UK capital within three years.

With the coronavirus pandemic, it was the hotels that were the first victims of the tourism downturn. With the gradual reopening of borders, accompanied by mass vaccinations, there is little hope that the hotel market will regain its customers. The general manager of the London Carlton Tower Jumeirah, Aaron Kaupp, expects tourist occupancy at his hotel to return to pre-pandemic levels within three to four years, as he says “tourists need time to regain confidence in the concept of international travel”.

However, in order to attract as many clients as possible, he is interested in acquiring several properties in Europe, particularly in London, but also in Italy and Germany. “Europe is on our priority list and we have several projects in the pipeline that we hope will come to fruition” , said Kaupp. However, while the tourism figures for the summer of 2021 look rather optimistic and promising in Frankfurt, they do not follow the same trend for London. The UK remains rather wary of a return of tourists, with forecasts predicting a slow return of tourists in early summer. It is also likely to remain below normal levels throughout the year and into 2021.
