The Accor group has appointed Stephen Alden general manager of Raffles and Orient Express. He will take up his position on May 3.

Stephen Alden, founder of The Dedica Anthology brand, which includes nine exceptional hotels in Europe, will take over the management of Raffles and Orient Express, in order to ensure the best possible development of the two brands.

We are delighted to welcome Stephen Alden, a highly respected visionary in the international luxury hotel industry. His experience and expertise will significantly enhance the momentum of Raffles and make the much-anticipated launch of our Orient Express hotel brand a huge success,” said Accor Chairman and CEO Sébastien Bazin.

After completing his education in Switzerland, Stephen Alden turned to the luxury hotel industry and joined the Starwood Group. He oversaw the opening of St. Regis in New York and worked on the international development of St. Regis and Luxury Collection. Alden then led the Maybourne Hotel Group, which owns Claridge’s, The Connaught, and The Berkeley, for seven years.

It is a privilege to assume the leadership of these two magnificent brands. I look forward to working closely with all of the functional and operational teams while leveraging the many talents and resources that Accor has at its disposal globally,” said Stephen Alden. “We now have a great opportunity to accelerate the momentum of Raffles and re-launch the Orient Express brand, bringing all its glamour and timelessness to a new generation of hotels, including a first opening in Rome.”

In 2016, Stephen Alden took over as CEO of The SET, which owns the Café Royal Hotel in London, the Conservatorium in Amsterdam, and the Lutetia in Paris. He has served on the board of several major luxury hotel groups, in England (Walpole British Luxury and London First) or in Italy (Ferragamo’s Lungarno Collection). In 2002, after the renovation of the Grand Hotel César Ritz, he received the “Console di Roma” award.
