On Saturday, Kim Jones presented his men’s collection for fall 2023, at the foot of the pyramids of Giza, in front of the brand new Grand Egyptian Museum. A first for the French fashion house that unveiled Dior Tears, in collaboration with Tremaine Emory, the artistic director of Supreme.

Combining streetwear and Haute Couture? This is the challenge that Kim Jones, the artistic director of Dior, took on with the help of Tremaine Emory, the founder of the Denim Tears brand and artistic director of Supreme. Together, they designed the latest Dior men’s collection, with a theme that pays tribute to African-American artists. Between futurism and avant-gardism, this collaboration takes us directly to Mars.

It is at the foot of the most famous pyramids in the world that the catwalk of the French label was installed last Saturday. The fashion show started in the night, in the light of the lights projected on the ancient stones of the historical monument, classified among the 7 wonders of the world. And when we talk about wonder, this new collection is also one. Starting with an exceptional staging. The models walked on a raw and sandy ground illuminated, reminding the lights of a spaceship.

The first models arrived to rhythmic music. The tones are light and nude. The silhouettes are light, the materials too. They fly in the wind. The models are one with the environment that surrounds them. The first pieces are beige, then gray, brown, khaki, black before touches of color – yellow, red – appear.

Among the key pieces of this collection, the costumes. Some are basic, others revisited, with asymmetrical cuts, in the form of trousers-skirts or accompanied by corsets in plastic imitation wood and big boots, similar to après-ski. There are no more barriers. It’s as if the present blends with the future. Each mannequin wears sunglasses or a helmet, under the arm or on the head, which strangely reminds those of astronauts.

The silhouettes are accompanied by accessories, as original as trendy. The models display bags, wooden baskets as backpacks, caps as well as sunglasses and tulle visors, reminiscent of those of beekeepers.

This fashion show was a mix of genres, styles, but also materials. The House of Dior likes to mix the old with the new. This collection unveils tank tops in sequins, tulle headwear, sweaters and knit tops as well as coats and windbreakers with a galaxy pattern. A nod to space?

The show ended with a grandiose parade of colors, shapes and fabrics, flying in the wind…

A new street-couture collaboration

This line celebrates the inventiveness of the house of Dior and the strength of its creative dialogues,” says Dior in a statement. This collection shows the ever vital importance of streetwear in luxury and the fusion of these two worlds.

Tremaine Emory, the founder of Denim Tears founded his brand in 2019 and joined Supreme in February. This is not his first time collaborating with renowned art directors. Before that, he worked with Virgil Abloh and Kanye West. Kim Jones is also not at his first collaboration. After ERL, Sacai, Kaws, Daniel Arsham, and now with Tremaine Emory, he keeps on boosting Dior’s creativity. When two fashion personalities meet, it gives Dior Tears.
