Following yesterday’s general meeting, Hermes said it was considering using the metaverse for communication purposes.

Hermès held its annual general meeting yesterday, Wednesday, April 20 at the Salle Pleyel in Paris. Noting that the share represented the strongest increase of the CAC 40 over two years, Eric de Seynes, the chairman of the supervisory board of the group explained “As we are living through an energy crisis, the share is now worth the price of a plaid but we remain on a wool and cashmere plaid“. As for the shareholders’ question about splitting the share “(it) has a cost and we lose visibility over time. We have never had so many transactions on the stock, we continue to win new shareholders and that’s fine,” he added.

Executives also said they intend to maintain a long-term view of production and other strategies, after family shareholders voted to lock in 54% of Hermès’ capital, held by the holding company H51, until at least 2041.

Craftsmanship and technology

Another topic came up at the AGM: the metaverse. Indeed, the group is considering using the metaverse for communication purposes, while remaining focused on craftsmanship. “We are curious and interested” in the metaverse, said executive chairman Axel Dumas, adding that it could be a good communication tool.

The metaverse has been widely described as a virtual world created with digital tools such as virtual reality and augmented reality and sometimes incorporating social networks and blockchain. But while the house maintains its global reputation for know-how, leather quality and craftsmanship, furthermore deploying new manufacturing facilities in France, it can’t miss the topic of the moment. Indeed, the metaverse is of increasing interest to fashion houses, who no longer hesitate to take part in the subject, as with Metaverse Fashion Week and its virtual shows. Hermès is no exception to the rule by taking an interest in this new mode of communication and action. No doubt we will discover this year what the Hermès group’s reflections on the subject have led to.
