The Kairos collection, put together by a private collector, will be auctioned in three parts, in Geneva, Hong Kong and New York, between May and June 2022.

Christie’s announces its exceptional auction “The Kairos Collection: Exceptional Contemporary Timepieces by Patek Philippe“. This extraordinary collection of 128 contemporary timepieces by Patek Philippe will be offered by Christie’s in three parts. On May 9, 30 pieces will be presented in Geneva, with highlights including legendary grand complications such as the Split-Seconds Chronograph in pink gold with a black dial and a Minute Repeater Perpetual Calendar in the same livery. On 24 May, Christie’s Hong Kong will present another 30 lots in the second part, with equally sought-after pieces including a Chronographe à Répétition Minutes in pink gold.

Finally, on June 8, the remaining 68 timepieces from the Kairos collection will be presented in the third part of Christie’s exhibition at Rockefeller Center in New York, highlighting the modern evolution of perpetual calendar chronographs, Métiers d’Art craftsmanship, world time references and complications, as well as the must-haves, including several double-signature dials from Tiffany & Co.

Unsurprisingly, each watch in the Kairos collection is in exceptional condition, accompanied by its original certificate and all associated product documentation, presentation box and dedicated packaging. Each watch has been packaged in a transparent, protective clamshell box to preserve its original condition and allow for unharmed viewing.

The Kairos collection was created by a leading private collector with a keen sense of excellence who has been actively collecting watches for over 35 years.

In ancient Greece, the concept of time had two aspects : chronos and kairos. The former refers simply to the whole of time, while the latter refers specifically to opportune, auspicious time, and thus to its preciousness. Chronos is quantitative while Kairos is qualitative. It is therefore easy to understand why the collection is called The Kairos Collection.

Prior to the 3 exceptional sales, a series of world previews at selected Christie’s venues will showcase the highlights of this timepiece collection. Open to the public, these special events will not only offer a rare opportunity to see such a constellation of Patek Philippe’s finest examples of modern watchmaking up close. Specialists from Christie’s Watches will also be on hand to provide insight into the evolution of the brand’s legendary complications.
