Changing lifestyles have significantly changed people’s vision, leading to an increase in myopia. Today, as many as 2.6 billion people worldwide are affected and it is estimated that by 2050, five billion people will be nearsighted – half the world’s population. Myopia is the leading cause of visual impairment in children and, over time, can contribute to an increased risk of developing permanent visual impairment. SightGlass Vision’s first mission is to slow down this myopia, in this case in children. EssilorLuxottica’s investment will help to demonstrate this desire to fight against eye diseases from an early age.
