Many changes have been announced for the French home shopping specialist La Redoute. The two co-directors Nathalie Balla and Eric Courteille are leaving the company while the Galeries Lafayette group is about to take over.

As a reminder, Nathalie Balla and Eric Courteille took over the reins of La Redoute at the end of December 2013, when the company was on the verge of bankruptcy and a redundancy plan. Since the arrival of the pair, the company is doing better with sales sustained by e-commerce, which represents 90% of turnover.

On Wednesday, Nathalie Balla and Eric Courteille announced their departure from the company to pursue personal projects. They will be replaced by Philippe Berlan, already Deputy Managing Director of La Redoute.

“We are proud of the progress we have made over the past four years with all the employees of La Redoute. We would like to sincerely thank Nathalie Balla and Eric Courteille for their commitment during our common adventure, and wish them all the best”, commented Philippe Houzé, Chairman of the Galeries Lafayette Group Management Board, in a press release. He added: “We are also very pleased that Philippe Berlan has become Managing Director. His excellent knowledge of the company, which he has actively contributed to transforming, will be a valuable asset in continuing the trajectory of this French e-commerce leader for the years to come.”

In another announcement for one of the leaders in e-commerce, the Galeries Lafayette group, owned by the Moulin-Houzé family, is preparing to buy the missing 49% of the capital of La Redoute. These 49% are held in majority by Balla and Courteille and by the company’s employees. The Galeries Lafayette group is currently a 51% shareholder in the company since 2017.

“We welcome the offensive and ambitious strategy carried out to successfully transform La Redoute. We would like to thank all our employees for their unfailing commitment. Together, we have been able to develop our activities with agility while respecting the values we hold dear. La Redoute is doing well, it is on the right track. It is with the satisfaction of a job well done that we hand over the reins. We are doing so at the right time, leaving it in good hands: with a solid shareholder, and Philippe Berlan at its head, who after having largely participated in its success, will be able to take up the challenges of tomorrow” affirm Nathalie Balla and Eric Courteille.

Thus, in a few months, Galeries Lafayette will own 100% of La Redoute.
