Nike Air Force 1 x Louis Vuitton: Virgil Abloh’s sneakers exceed expectations

Nike and the brand Louis Vuitton have teamed up to produce a very limited edition pair of sneakers, first seen at the Spring/Summer 2022 show. The sneakers are currently up for auction and, not surprisingly, are already exceeding estimates.

Louis Vuitton is collaborating with auction house Sotheby’s to auction off the 200 pairs, which are the result of the partnership between Louis Vuitton and Nike. The auction runs from January 26 to February 8, 2022 on Sotheby’s.com, where the starting price has been set at $2,000, sparking excitement among collectors.

Sotheby’s initial total estimate was $1-3 million, however on opening day the number of bids broke Sotheby’s record for online sales.

“We’re currently at around $6.1 million in hammer price,”, said Sotheby’s head of streetwear and modern collectibles, Brahm Wachter, on Tuesday.

This co-branding brings together the worlds of the two brands, between Nike’s sportswear spirit and Louis Vuitton’s iconic Monogram and Damier patterns. The trainers are offered in different sizes ranging from 37.5 to 52.5.

Each pair sold will be accompanied by a Pilot bag, made of orange Taurillon Illusion leather embossed with the Monogram motif, from the Spring-Summer 2022 collection.

Proceeds from the sales will go to the “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund established by Virgil Abloh in July 2020, in partnership with the Fashion Scholarship Fund. This initiative aims to support the training of promising black students of African-American and African descent in the fashion industry.
