Two years after claiming its first Guinness World Record for the longest skid, the Porsche Taycan has again made it into the Guinness Book of Records with the fastest charging time across the US for an electric vehicle.

Wayne Gerdes, holder of several Guinness World Records for testing the efficiency and range of other vehicles, has just added a new one to his collection: that of crossing the United States in a vehicle while achieving the shortest charging time.

He completed this long journey in a 2021 Porsche Taycan equipped with the optional Performance Battery Plus. His journey started in Los Angeles, California, on the west coast and ended in New York City, in the eastern United States.

Covering 2,834.5 miles, or 4,560.9 kilometres, the cumulative charging time for the long journey was just 2 hours, 26 minutes and 48 seconds.

Comparing the charging performance of the variety of electric vehicles I have driven to date, the Taycan sets the bar high,” said Gerdes. “The first time I charged on a 350 KW charger, 6 to 82 percent occurred in just 22 minutes,” he continued.

The previous record was held by the Kia EV6, which had completed the same journey but with a charging time almost four times longer than that set by the Porsche Taycan: 7 hours, 10 minutes and one second. A major improvement has therefore been made by Porsche.

In order to ensure that the journey went smoothly while minimising the charging time required, the route was planned in advance using charging applications such as Electrify America, the leading electric charging network in the US.

To certify the record, the car was equipped with several cameras and a GPS tracker to record every mile driven, while Gerdes carefully recorded every stop he made, with independent witnesses present. Finally, a panel of judges examined the evidence before awarding the title to the Porsche Taycan and its driver.

I am proud and honestly a little surprised to have set the new benchmark with such a difference. The Taycan performed even better than expected. Its performance, comfort and handling were excellent, but the most important criterion, apart from the load capacity, was its efficiency. I’m grateful to Porsche for supporting me and to the Electrify America network for making this possible,” said Gerdes after establishing the car as a winner. said Gerdes after setting the new record.
