Fashion Week dedicated to men’s fashion was held in Paris from Tuesday 18 to Sunday 23 January 2022 and then gave way to the high fashion shows from Monday 24 January until Thursday 27 January 2022. Let’s look back at the highlights of these shows.
Louis Vuitton show : Tribute to the late Virgil Abloh
This year’s Louis Vuitton men’s show was particularly emotional without the presence of its fashion genius. Last November, Louis Vuitton’s artistic director of men’s fashion, Virgil Abloh, died suddenly of a rare disease at the age of 41.
There were not just one but two shows to present the latest Louis Vuitton men’s collections. The models paraded in a “Dreamhouse” setting, with dancers and a symphony orchestra.
Louis Vuitton wanted to pay tribute to its artistic director, as this was the last men’s collection designed by Virgil Abloh. As the artistic director came to greet the audience, about thirty members of Virgil’s team came to greet the room, wearing T-shirts in the colours of the setting sun.
The city of Paris in the spotlight at the AMI fashion show
The brand AMI has struck a blow with all the communication prepared in advance of the fashion show on 19 January 2022. After two years of digital fashion shows, the Ami show was inspired by one of the capital’s most emblematic places, as the setting for the show evokes the metro.
“My new collection is very much inspired by the street, where you meet a lot of people, with different styles, different nationalities, different bodies, different ages”, says Alexandre Mattiussi, founder of Ami.
Model Emily Ratajkowski, actresses Isabelle Adjani and Laetitia Casta and Ben Attal, Charlotte Gainsbourg‘s son, caused a sensation on the Ami catwalk, in pieces that were both colourful and elegant.
Dior fashion show : 75 years of heritage
On Friday 21 January, Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Dior‘s men’s collections, presented the autumn-winter 2022 collection, paying tribute to the heritage left by Christian Dior. Indeed, 2022 is a very special year for the House as it is Dior’s 75th anniversary.
Kim Jones proposes a collection revisiting the emblematic pieces of the House of Dior, such as the famous Bar suit for men, the iconic cane motif or the lucky star, the lucky object of Monsieur Dior.
Kim Jones wanted a collection that “still has the joie de vivre that is at the heart of Christian Dior’s creations,” says the Artistic Director.
