For the celebration of the white month at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, initiated in 1872 by Aristide and Marguerite Boucicaut, founder of the department store, Turkish artist Mehmet Ali Uysal is invited to design an immersive installation in favor of the climate. The work entitled “Su” can be seen until February 20.

The artist presents in the department store his work “Su” meaning “water” in Turkish, with the aim of raising awareness of climate issues, so important in our time. This immersive installation “mixes natural and cultural elements in an artistic reflection on water and its power both vital and destructive.

Two icebergs have been installed on both sides of the iconic escalator of Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, designed by Andrée Putman. These two icebergs embody a climatic and environmental issue: the disappearance of glaciers in the Arctic and Antarctic. The water spreads through the windows of Le Bon Marché thanks to a play of light.

On the second floor, there is a white origami boat 17 meters long and 8 meters wide. It is a reminder of Noah’s Ark and symbolizes the hope of tomorrow’s world, saved from the rising waters. Children can enjoy a visit of the boat with the artist and a storyteller.

On the occasion of this event, Benjamin Dutreux, sailor and skipper of the Vendée Globe, joined the exhibition. In his job, he sees the damage caused by pollution and climate change on a daily basis. He is also an ambassador for the Water Family, an association that raises awareness among young people about water protection.

Come to the conversation with Mehmet Ali Uysal and Benjamin Dutreux on January 20, 2022 at 8:30 pm, about climate issues and their relationship with water and the urgency to protect the environment. The event is on registration.
