On Tuesday, Giorgio Armani announced that it was cancelling its January shows for Men’s Fashion Week in Milan and Haute Couture Week in Paris. The reason for this is the epidemic rebound of Covid-19 via the circulation of the new Omicron variant in Europe.

Since December, Europe has seen a resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic. Indeed, the number of weekly infections is again soaring that several countries are reinstating restrictions and strict measures. The situation is particularly bad in Italy and France, two countries that are preparing to host the Men’s Fashion Week and Haute Couture Week shows.

Italian designer Giorgio Armani said in an official statement that he would not be taking part in his Emporio Armani show in Milan and his Giorgio Armani Privé show in Paris.

“the shows are crucial and irreplaceable occasions but the health and safety of both employees and the public must once again take priority,” said Giorgio Armani.

Armani is currently the first Italian fashion house to have taken the decision to cancel its shows, due to the Omicron variant which is reinforcing the Covid-19 epidemic in Europe. This announcement will perhaps trigger similar decisions for other Houses.
