Matthieu Blazy Named New Artistic Director of Bottega Veneta

The upheaval continues at Bottega Veneta. A few days after the separation between the branch of Kering and Daniel Lee, now former artistic director, a young Parisian of 38 years named Matthieu Blazy has been appointed to the position of the latter.

It’s official, Matthieu Blazy takes on the role of artistic director of Bottega Veneta. The designer is not stepping into the unknown, however: design director for the high-end Italian brand since last year, Blazy has gradually climbed the ranks. He previously worked for brands like Calvin Klein, Maison Margiela and Celine as a senior designer.

I am convinced that Matthieu Blazy’s wealth of experience and culture will allow him to bring his creative impetus to the task of perpetuating the Bottega Veneta legacy,” said François-Henri Pinault, CEO and chairman of Kering.

Following the surprise departure of Daniel Lee a few days ago, the name Matthieu Blazy could appear as an obvious choice at Bottega Veneta. He is credited with sales growth and the creation of many popular accessories, such as cushioned leather handbags.

Nevertheless, some recent moves may have temporarily jeopardized the brand’s image, such as holding a party in April 2021 while the Covid-19 pandemic was in full swing, or his withdrawal from social networks earlier this year. It remains to be seen how the Blazy reign will change or maintain the strategy of the Kering firm.

We’ll have to wait until February 2022 to see the first collection of the newly appointed Parisian.
