At a virtual general meeting on Friday, Daimler shareholders decided on a historic realignment of the company. By the end of 2021, Daimler Truck will be split into two, with Daimler AG on one side and Daimler Truck Holding AG on the other.

The company intends to sell its commercial vehicle business to a new subsidiary in order to increase profitability and, according to the shareholders, to fully exploit the brand’s potential.

For Bernd Pischetsrieder, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Daimler AG, this decision was taken at the right time and will ensure the brand’s continued success. “Daimler Truck and Mercedes-Benz will be able to master the transformation of the industry even better with entrepreneurial freedom and an independent management structure”.

Ola Källenius, chairman of the boards of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG, is also very optimistic about this division of Daimler into two entities. “Daimler is being split into two strong, independent companies. With this decisive realignment, we aim to create value for all stakeholders. By unleashing the full potential of both companies, we are establishing two clear leaders who will set the pace in the transformation of their industries.

With this demerger, Daimler wants to look to the future and set a new course. The company has set itself three objectives. Firstly, to offer its customers the best products. Secondly, to enable shareholders to benefit from an attractive return on their investments. And finally, to provide employees with sustainable jobs. In order to achieve this, the company will increasingly focus on the development of carbon-free battery and fuel cell vehicles.

With the demerger and the listing of the new Daimler Truck Holding AG on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, the company’s shareholders will hold shares not only in Daimler AG, but also in the new global market leader for commercial vehicles. All these changes of course will allow the company to have a new look in February 2022, as Daimler AG will change its name to Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
